About Us

The COAD is a network of local organizations, public and private agencies, and nonprofits that partner to plan for, respond to, and help communities recover from disasters. Effective coordination and collaboration across these different sectors facilitates a more rapid response thereby reducing human suffering.  To maximize our impact, the Kansas City Regional COAD is also, a 501c3 nonprofit. We look forward to sharing our mission with you!

Committees

Committees play a vital role in emergency response and recovery by facilitating coordinated efforts, ensuring comprehensive planning, and enabling effective communication and resource allocation among various stakeholders. The COAD stands firm that committees are the heart of our organization.  Each of our committees is listed below and there you can learn more about what they do, meetings, contact information, and pertinent resources.

Community Involvement

Helen Keller said it best when she said, "alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."  The Kansas City Regional COAD is a firm believer in you cannot have community without unity.  Read more about what we do to support communities before disasters happen and how we can support you in helping to strengthen communities.  If you are interested in making a contribution to help us help others, we would welcome your generosity.  All donations are tax deductible!

Internship Opportunities

The COAD's internship program offers invaluable hands-on experience in the critical field of emergency management, preparing the next generation of professionals for a wide array of career opportunities. Interns assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of emergency preparedness and response activities across the four mission areas: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Communication is a critical component in any situation, but especially in disasters. Read about the impact of inefficiencies in communication from the perspective of Emergency Managers and Health Professionals.

How older adults prefer to receive communications in emergencies and other situations is often different than with younger populations.  Read more about the needs of an older population when it comes to critical communications.
